Orrr.....you cannot be influenced and are destined to become a leader.

Hmmm....never thought of it that way, SG.

But to be a leader, people have to LIKE you to follow you.... as evidenced by our country's greatest popularity contest...a presidential election.Blueud

Well I personally find you quite likable! And the fact that you can't be influenced is something I admire. We NEED more people like that leading us!

People are influenced by this every day, including myself. wordnetweb.princeton.edu/perl/webwn defines "hypnosis" as "a state that resembles sleep but that is induced by suggestion". Many people's values and beliefs are induced by suggestion...even if they originally believed something else.

Lead on, beausant! =)

You are SO right, SG.

I will tread lightly here because I know how important a person's religion is to them, and I in no way wish to offend anyone or to come off as "anti religion". I am not that, certainly. I am anti ORGANIZED religion, though. My problem with religion is not WHO is worshipped, be it Buddha, Mohammed or Jesus....my problem with religion is that it is (and has been since the beginning of time) used to control the masses....i.e. mind control/brainwashing. THAT is very very dangerous....and so, organized religion is, IMO, DANGEROUS.

Here is where I get into trouble, I speak my mind. ALL religions practice some degree of mind control....but the Catholic Church took it to a whole new level. AGAIN: Please do not take offense all you Catholics out there. This is not an attack...it is simply me stating what I feel to be true. I was born a Catholic, some of my best friends are Catholic.....but I cannot say I condone the practices of their church. my friend Sharon is a devout Catholic....am I anti catholic? well, yes. I am. Am I anti Sharon? of course not.

Oh gosh, I am rambling.Icontexto-emoticons-10-032x032

Just wanted to say that SG is right on the money with her above statement. God is wherever you BELIEVE him to be - a mosque, a synagogue, a cathedral....your living room. You don't NEED anyone to tell you how to find Him, how to talk to Him, or to interpret His words and laws FOR you. Organized religion is an EXCUSE to CONTROL others....

.....The reason it doesn't work for me is that I am uncontrollable.Icontexto-emoticons-01-032x032

What I've always wondered is: WHY are so many people so easily influenced? Is it because it's just easier to follow others' dogma/opinions than to think for yourself? Why not trust your OWN intellect, intuition and logic??

I do know this, though....whatever type of person you are, it is difficult to change. At least, it is for me. I wonder what it is that makes us the way we are, whether easily influenced or stubborn as the meanest mule.....

Ever go to a carnival or side show and found the announcer to have this ability to make you want to go to the show?

Well this happens daily in life and in the paranormal field. People are told what to experience and they do.

Its called hypnotic influence and is easy to do. You have probably done it without realizing it.

Yup, and this is the simple stuff. This is just what the Sham-Wow/Slapchop guy does to you at 3am Classic Smile Advanced marketing/advertising techniques are scary stuff if you look into it. Real mind control at its finest.

I've caught myself falling for it before but I normally see it for what it is. I still feel the persuasiveness though.

It is easy to get many people to believe something if presented properly.

Oh I know your type - an ignorant who like putting words into other people mouths. If you really think this is enough to engage discussion with me kid, you're so wrong Tongue

When did I put words in your mouth? I told it like I saw it, you after all are the expert on everything (at least in your mind you are.) You visit the site rarely and when you do you have this I am better then you all mentality. Most of the time you are trying to promote your site or I should say promote yourself. Well you might impress some people but not me. I will not get into calling names and belittling you, I don't think i need to I just let you be yourself.

My post was some people can be influenced and there are lots of web sites on Hypnotic influence. Now if you disagree with all the web sites on this then why not use some of the intelligence you claim to have and show us ignorant folk where you think they are all wrong? When a haunted walk takes place and people are told stories a percentage will experience what they are told even if they were untrue. Now to me this is influencing them.
Now with all your vast amounts of intelligence and being better then any of us please EXPLAIN why you disagree and not just expect us to take your word. After all your Nathan
Belief bias occurs when we make illogical conclusions in order to confirm our preexisting beliefs. Belief perseverance refers to our tendency to maintain a belief even after the evidence we used to form the belief is contradicted.

I have a problem with this discussion. Nathan, you seem to be attempting a flame war here with your high and mighty attitude. Instead of simply sharing an opinion and backing it up with some facts or research, you seem to be trying to provoke an attack for some reason. Also, calling a respected forum member who has more than proven his intelligence over a long period time and provided a valuable service to this forum through his knowledge 'ignorant' seems to be a pitiful attempt at name calling when name calling is against the rules here. I have PM'd you over this sort of behavior before, only to have this same type of lashing out turned on me.

Stay on topic and follow the rules and if you can't play nice find another playground. Pretty simple stuff really.

I agree with your way of thinking!!! My temple is in my soul with God as my leader. When people ask me where i go to church i just tell them that i am in my own church 24/7, many dont understand this concept,lol...... i have found that by being so open minded that i attract many people. I try to spread love and joy, and help people less fortunate than i am. You, my dear, are a born leader!!!! I feel that i know you in a way, as i can read your posts and feel what a warm hearted person you are. Dont change for anyone, you are who you are supposed to be. So many people in this world have no clue who they are!!!!!!
Something i have learned as i age is, most people who have an almighty attitude are usually the ones who are very insecure with themselves, although they would never admit this, or maybe they just dont realize it. Its a shame , really!!!!
Pride and Fear always distort the truth into either a false sense of security or a lack of confidence and diminished self-worth.

I limit my opinions on some subjects that may be completely opposite or controversial from some threads and post replies that are on this forum.
I think a completely open conversation here on some subjects is not possible. This is just my opinion....
