TRUE PAGANISM
#31
I'm a catholic but am flexible in my beliefs. I personally believe that religion is an intimate journey where an individual shouldn't conform themselves to what is stated in a dogma (afterall, the historical authenticity of these things aren't whole... which could have resulted in many misconceptions and misintepretations) but should unearth what they feel to be right.

As for catholics being a dominant religion....not sure....

but i was also under the impression that a pagan was a person whom followed beliefs contrary to those accepted by Catholicism during the middle ages and was oblivious to it being recognised as a religion..

oh also almost forgot to commend haunted on his 'sanctimonious' description about Catholicism. It's people like him he do proud to his Christian faith....
Did anyone else pick the sarcasm? Rolleyes

(NOTE from Admin - Insult to members mother has been removed - Please do not make insults like that). Glad you didn't raise your boys around that...

Hey if people can be 'sanctimonious' against Pagans, then I can be sanctimonious against Catholic's, which is not what I was doing at all.

Only people who are the epitome of ignorance would have taken it that way. And, yes with all the young boys that have been molested by Catholic priests in the past news stories, I'm glad my boys weren't within their grips!

Anyway, in simpler terms, I was just stating that just because people are high in power that does not mean they're right about everything. And, just because world leaders have ties to the Catholic church that also doesn't make either of them 100% right. World leaders want to associate themselves with anyone that has power over people. And, I also plainly stated that it's not just world leaders and the Catholic church that does this, people with power and money just naturally associate with other people that have power and money.

Look, this is all totally ridiculous and childish! We have all let ourselves get sucked right up in the age old religion thing like a bunch of kids!

No one can honestly say that their beliefs are the right beliefs. No, you can't honestly say that and if you do, then you're just badly fooled. I'm sure there are many that wouldn't admit it, but I know I for one can't say without a doubt that my beliefs about God, hell and all other religious subjects are completely right and perfect. I don't even believe that everything that I was taught in church was exactly right.

The only way anyone is ever going to know without a shadow of a doubt that their way is the right way is after they die. Then and only then, when you open your eyes and find out where you are, are you going to know if your beliefs and the way you lived your life was right or not!

I honestly wasn't downing the Catholic religion. There are several Catholic churches within just a few miles of my home and they're a blessing to the community. I will say that Catholic's above any other religion I know of will help the community and the people in it no matter what their religions are.

I was just honestly stating that being dominant or hanging with powerful people does not make you right!

Anyway, back to my point! Religion has been argued for centuries and will continue to be argued til the end of time. But, we all seem to have forgotten a very important fact, this IS NOT a religious forum, it's a paranormal forum and I think we should all try to remember that - even me - and keep our discussions centered on the paranormal.

And, I don't mean we shouldn't mention religion at all here, we just don't need to be arguing about it. If we talk about demon possessions, the Catholic church is probably going to be brought up. They're the ones that most people turn to for help in exorcism in those cases.

Haunted...
Seriously, only a vain, dogmatic person would be so susceptible to the snares of the media like that. The highly circulated coverage of catholic priests molesting younger children represents a minority of the molestation cases out there.

In fact, the percentage of paedophiles in the clergy of the Catholic Church is actually less than that of society in general.

Here are a few molestation cases within other divisions of the christian community:
1.Pastor convicted of molesting foster child, A Decatur pastor faces at least 25 years in prison after being convicted of aggravated sexual battery and child molestation of his 15-year-old foster child.
reference: ex-christian .net
2. Muncie pastor accused of child molesting. Muncie - Police say that a pastor sexually abused at least three former male members of his church. They arrested 52-year-old Pastor Matthew Kidd on several felony counts.
refence: msnbc.com hom
3. Pastor get 90 year sentence for molesting children.
SANTA ANA, Calif. - A California pastor who videotaped himself molesting a 13-year-old girl in a church office has been sentenced to 90 years in prison for sexually abusing five children

The truth is Catholicism is targeted by the media for it's delicate hierarchy and strong influence on nations. Any small outburst is more then adequate for the media to use to demean the catholic faith. The catholic faith is as potent as any government organisation because of the internal order and billions of followers.

The actions of a minor few don't represent the love and compassion of billions. You've allowed yourself to be swayed by media propaganda and preconceived stereotyped beliefs.
Heck if this doesn't show your ignorance then what does? It's people like you who prevent the unification of Christian bodies because of your unrelenting desire to belittle the teachings of other religions.

There is nothing ignorant about Haunted, tempers are flaring out of control at the moment and i'm suspecting one in particular who caused this to happen is getting alot of satisfaction from this.

If you go through the forum with a fine tooth combe maybe you will discover why. Until then it is probably a good idea to leave judgment open until then. Unfortunately, one particular thread was closed which would have cast a great deal of light onto this.

I did notice however, you being Catholic also, there was no mention of the other Catholic's 'sanctimonious' outbursts by you Huh Wondered why you singled Haunted out?

My point exactly, this is why I started this thread. No one can claim that the path or religion they choose to follow is the ultimate in all other religions/paths.

Heck!! there's one sure way of firing people up and that's religion, it brings out the devil in us all Devil Smiley

Could I make a suggestion please? Smile That we all calm down and try and debate this in a rational way, otherwise it is just going to result in another thread being locked.

Sorry, but rationale and religion cannot co-exist.

I'm all for locking this post and getting rid of the section altogether. Any future discussions about paganism will only be tainted by those who think they know better.

This is up to Caretaker.

I certainly won't be becoming a member of any religion in my lifetime, MUCH more so now!

I dont think there is any need to close this thread down. People will always have differences of opinions especially when it comes to topics like this.

However, someone above actually made an insult to another members mother and that will NOT be tolerated here. Members may disagree and argue and discuss but I do not want to see any "name calling" or personal slander/attacks.

Anyone who reads this thread can clearly see that I strongly disagree with some of what has been said and I let that be know in my replies. But as I said there will always be disagreements when discussing topics like this, thats just the way it is.

I think we need to express our opinions and viewpoints about whatever is being discussed and allow others to do the same. If we dont agree with them we can say as much and give our reasons why or we can just ignore them and go on. This is how we learn and grow, just remember that we are all people here behind these keyboards and everyone has feelings and our own ideas about things. Just because we disagree or dont like what someone else thinks about a particular topic doesnt mean that we should get angry (and start doing things like insulting someone's mother!)

Personally I think this is a great discussion here in this thread even though I do not agree with a lot of what has been said.

So the thread stays then, thank you Caretaker!

I'm quite surprised you wanted it closing anyway, to say people were sticking up for your faith.
