Sightings of shadow people have been reported all over the world. They are a recurring topic of the late-night talk radio show Coast-to-Coast AM. The former host of the show, Art Bell, seemingly resurrected the term "shadow people." The term appeared as early as September 21, 1953 as the title of a radio drama that was broadcast on Chicago's WGN-AM "Hall of Fantasy"* series. However, reports of beings fitting the description of shadow people have been recorded for centuries in literature. For example, in 1887, celebrated French author Guy de Maupassant pennned the story "Le Horla" ("The Horla") about shadowy beings who live on milk and water, bedevil human minds, and stalk the unwary.

Even though these creatures were never proven to exist, sightings appear to occur most often in Rhode Island and North Carolina in the United States of America.

Thanks, I think it's pretty creepy still, I remember when I first saw him, has anyone who has seen the hat man, experienced other abilities , paranormal , physic or intuitive things?

That is very interesting. And, were they in people's homes or were they outside? Or both? Were they solid like people, or more like a spirit, changing forms, walking through walls, that sort of thing?

In my experience they were 3 dimensional like people, but made no sound at all when they moved. I can't get one of my younger brothers to talk about his encounter. I found out later from one of my other brothers that he had been sleeping in my old room during my first year away at college. One night, apparently 3 of these figures ascended out of the floor, which was linoleum laid over a solid concrete foundation..., a one story ranch style house. He was scared pretty bad..., and slept with the lights on for several years afterward. He was 17 at that time, and now he is close to 50, and he still refuses to discuss the encounter.

I'll look around a bit, and let you know if I find anything. Icontexto-emoticons-07-032x032

Dude that is creeeeeeeeeeepy man. I only caught a glimpse of the shadow that it casted on the wall. Yea i know weird. A shadow casting a shadow. But it really did happen. I saw it float by quickly on the wall of my bedroom bc my blinds were open to where light was shown on my wall. Anyway thanks for sharing and I'm glad I'm not alone on this shadow thing.

Hi, Good Morning... welcome . ( it's pouring here) this is curious, is this a coincedence ? or maybe feeling energies , I never check my e-mail in the early morning, usually around lunch time. Had been up cooking , cleaning and doing laundry, listening to some music. I was getting ready to go feed my dog, had his food ready, chicken and rice as a treat for Memorial Day,I set his bowls down, grabbed a diet coke and came and logged onto the computer. Yours was the first message, random, huh?
I think it would be even more creepier to see a shadow, what did the shape look like, how did you feel at the time? Have you had any other experiences? I had some other weird stuff happen around then too.

RE: The Hat Man
Well it did not look like it walked by quickly but rather floated by. He was wearing a hat, talllllllllllll as heck, had a loooooooooong nose, chin jutted out a bit and was wearing what looked like a big coat with the collar up. It probably took him like 2-3 seconds to float by my window that is about 4 foot wide. When I saw it, I was more curious than scared and peeked out the blinds to see if I could spot him again. I really thought someone was in our back yard. Plus I was only about 7-10 years old so my uncle and brother, who was in the same room with me, did not believe me and ever since then I've never seen it again. And yea dude I've had A LOT of experiences throughout my life. Some of my friends and family were saying that I'm psychic bc I always see things that other cant. I dunno if I am though.... but I will admit that I have a knack of seeing paranormal things.

RE: The Hat Man
Hello, I'm new here but this thread called out to me demanding I post my experiences.

I've dealt with this particular entity for most of my life. It began when I was a child and the last encounter was about six years ago. When I was a child, I did have a sleepwalking problem and my mother tells me that I suffered from night terrors when I was very young. I don't know if this is linked to the Hat Man but I felt obliged to state that I did have these issues.

In every encounter, it would begin with me asleep. I would wake up experiencing extreme terror. This was not sleep paralysis as I was always capable of movement. Usually, the Hat Man would be standing next to a doorway or a window, highlighted from behind so that I could not see his face or any real detail about him. The only thing I can say for sure is that he wore a long coat or cloak and a wide-brimmed hat of some type.

I always got the impression that if I went to sleep with an arm or leg exposed as a child, the Hat Man would come and cut that limb off. I told my parents about this and, of course, this prompted a visit to a psychiatrist. Though the doctor was disturbed by the fact that a six year old thought that someone would cut his limbs off at night, I was considered a normal child with a few minor sleep disorders.

As the years went on, the confrontations become more and more severe to the point that I would block my door at night, to no avail though. I would prop a chair against the inside of my door at night as I didn't have a lock on the door but the hat man would still get in, usually appearing next to window then. I always felt a sense of intense dread when the entity showed up but I was never physically harmed by it.

When I became an adult, the encountered became more rare and more violent. I began throwing things at the entity, hitting it with pillows, glasses, etc. Whatever I could reach. I began to feel more rage at the invasion of my personal space than dread. In the morning after the encounters, I would always find the object that I had thrown lying on the floor near where I had seen the being.

Finally, the last time I encountered it, It was in the hallway behind my current wife. She had gotten up in the night to go to the bathroom, causing me to wake as I'm a pretty light sleeper. She turned to me as she opened our bedroom door to ask if I was ok when I saw him behind her. I felt that he was reaching toward here and I lost it. I jumped from bed, belted out a primal scream and charged the entity. I felt something when I encountered it. Sort of like jumping into a pond in the middle of winter. It took me most of the rest of the night to warm up.

I haven't encountered him since that night. I don't know if it was the physical contact that disrupted it or if it finally came to the conclusion that I wasn't scared of it anymore. Either way, he seems to have left me for now.

(04-09-2010 09:03 PM)dancing4myself Wrote:  Hi, I recently saw the hat man again , or I'm thinking that I am really tuning in to it again.(don't want to) I have always been able to pick up and sense things . It's kinda random , Most things I keep to myself, because in my experience it makes people uncomfortable. That's another post though.
The first time I saw the hat man I was 8 years old, about 1970. I lived with my parents and two sisters. I shared a room with my middle sister . It was late, I knew everyone was in bed and sleeping.
I feel this memory like it happened yesterday, and I think thinking about him will open up that part of me thats sensitive to that kind of
energy , it's scary.
the terror and just the sense of having been watched , the energy or vibe of badness , wrongness and or just a darkness. hard to convey the shock that I felt when I knew I wasn't dreaming.
I woke up and in the doorway I saw a man with a long black overcoat, kinda like one of the old western duster coats. He had on a fedora type hat with a large brim, I couldn't see his face clearly it was in shadow , but the nightlight from the bathroom lit him from behind. He crooked his right index finger, motioning me to him. I blinked, rubbed my eyes, and he was still there. It seemed like he was closer to me then , he was still backlit from the nightlight. I remember looking at him getting closer, closing my eyes and saying the our father prayer. When I opened my eyes again I didn't see him, but I knew and know he was still there.
The energy or feeling was still there and very strong. but I knew I shouldn't get out of bed or try to run across the hall, or else he would somehow get me, or so I thought at the time. I don't remember how long I sat there in my bed it seemed like a long time. I finally got up the courage to run to my parents room, don't think my feet touched the floor.
I woke my parents, The police came, the house was searched, neighbors all on alert. No signs of anything or anyone. Remember seeing my parents , thier friends, grandparents, in little groups huudled up talking, looking at me. I don't think anyone believed me, and they thought I might be incapacitated in some way.
It was close to five or six years before I would sleep alone in a room, much less by myself in a bed. Now all these years later I have had a few incidents recently that brought it home again. I would like to hear if you have experienced anything similar to this,

Heya, just thought i'd let you know you are not alone. I have seen this figure since i was 7 years old. He will stand there in doorways or walk past my door or i'll see him in the corner of my eye. Just tall black figure with what seems like a hat, a very solid figure with no features.

RE: The Hat Man
You're a medium. i think that is awesome. these spirits come to you because nobody else can see them. I say embrace the gift. try and talk to the hat man and ask who he was, how old he was, was he a relative, things like that. don't be afraid.
