We're college students, so he went back home after we moved in to continue working. I spent about 3 weeks here alone. I don't actually physically see anything, but every once in a while I will get this mental image of a shadowy human figure standing in the doorway of either the bedroom or the bathroom. It got to the point where I either had to take medication in order to even sleep, and even then sleep was hard to come by. I ended up visiting him a couple of weeks ago, because it was my birthday and it is cheaper to visit his family than mine. I spent a week there, and had no issues with these mental images. But the second we got home, they started up again.

It gets worse at night, as soon as the sun sets around 7-7:30 pm, and when I am alone. The apartment complex is fairly old, I'd say about 25 years but I can't find an exact date. But from what I can tell, the only major crimes that happen here are car break ins and tires being stolen. I'm just curious if anyone would have an explanation for this, or a suggestion as to what I can do to protect myself/ make these images stop.

Stop believing in the unproven.
Also read about shadows people THINK they see.

Also read about new house effect. When faced with unfamiliar situations, some people react by feeling anxious ('fear of the unknown'). This can adversely affect how accurately they interpret their surroundings. This factor contributes to the New House Effect, increasing the likelihood of reports of unusual or paranormal phenomena, whether present or not.

Belief bias occurs when we make illogical conclusions in order to confirm our preexisting beliefs. Belief perseverance refers to our tendency to maintain a belief even after the evidence we used to form the belief is contradicted.

There are no shadows in the house that would make sense. It's bright in here, so maybe if I thought that I was seeing a mouse or something, yes. But I think that I'm seeing a person, standing up. Why are you on a website like this if you don't believe in the paranormal?

Scream_16 RE: Shadow Creatures
The house I lived in for 18 years had shadow figures. I didn't know what they were, but I experienced things from 5 years old until I left the house. When I was young I would have, what my mother would call, night terrors. But the older I got, the more I just realized I was really sensitive to what ever was in the house. I constantly thought/felt there was something watching me when I was young, from my closet to under my bed. I would consistently be up at 2, 3 in the morning in complete fear. Fast forward, and I started accepting that ghosts could be real. There were multiple nights I would hear whispers in my ear. So much, I had to have a loud fan on, or my radio going so I wouldn't hear things. You know, a whisper that is almost breathy right next to my ear, not my parents voices bouncing off any vents. Being a cocky teenager, I decided to try to face the thing, I started using tarot cards, trying to communicate, sitting in the dark.

One day, my fears/suspicions became reality. Four of my friends were over, sleeping on the living room floor. I had left my friends to walk into the kitchen, the lights weren't even completely off, and a dark shadowy figure came up from the floor and just appeared a foot in front of me. Complete human outline, standing about half a foot taller than me (5'7"). I hear nothing, but I was scared so much out of my mind that I just started walking backwards until I tripped over the living room step landing on my butt. I turned around, crawling over my friends and got under my last friends blanket covering my head. My friend woke, told her I was scared, of course her being half asleep just hugged me, and I just pretended the shadow wasn't there until I fell asleep.

My second shadow experience, was something I don't like talking about. I was laying in my bed and felt pressure on my legs which where under a blanket. I assumed it was my cat. When it started shifting up my body, that is when I realized it wasn't my cat because it was a consistent pressure versus a centered pressure on paws. I look down and see a black shape, the next thing I know I am knocked out. I am not sure what happened, but I feel I am lucky that nothing bad happened after I experienced this.

In my new place, I have experienced some odd things, but nothing like the older house I lived in. Sometimes I am sad that I decided to shut myself off from the paranormal world, but I think it is better for my health and sleep. However, I will always believe in ghost and I think there is so much more in this world we need to explain.

Hmm interesting, maybe you have an increased fear because you were alone. It would be odd if you weren't seeing it while you were with your boyfriend. However, maybe your focus is now elsewhere. You're now alone, so you look around more, you don't feel as secure so you pay attention to your surroundings more. I think, it is important to just accept that their could be ghosts all around us, but it appears you are safe. It probably just wants you to notice it, or doesn't think you can see it. You've not mentioned any touching or violence, so feel comfort in knowing that it is not aggressive if there is something there.

RE: Shadow Creatures
You made me laugh, Desert Sun .... I had a few posts with U and R earlier and was wondering that exact same thing .... But I'd like to add something to others who see shadow people ... Crazy eye doctors should really inform people who are about to get double cataract surgery of the real possibility of just that ... black shadows near the floor, straight up 6 foot tall linear shadows, bright glints of light at the corners of your eyes, and on and on ... I see all of that every day and it started within the three weeks it took to perform each eye surgery ... I ride a motorcycle as well and it's truly scary to see black hazy deer crossing the road, and slowly moving 'wet tissue paper' that slowly floats across one or sometimes both eyes ... This post isn't really directed at your own problem but more toward those who did have double cataract surgery and are experiencing the same problem ...

RE: Shadow Creatures
We have dealt with a shadow for many years, but it's not a "creature". It has a name and a consciousness. It can be seen both day and night. It will cross the yard in broad daylight. Our son's friends have encountered it in the yard up close, within a few feet. Light cannot pass through it and you can't see through it even that close.
We rarely mention what this is because it's a different level of darkness than most people will encounter. I think most people reading this have already figured out what this shadow is.
When this shadow possesses someone, they have been known to have verifiable drops in body temperature anywhere from 10 to 15 degrees. Something that cannot be hallucinated or medically explained.

and your proof of this is? Its easy to make bizarre claims
If your body falls under certain temperature your cells start to die and you can eventually die as well. When our body temperature falls below 90 degrees Fahrenheit, the heart begins to have difficulty functioning below 83 degrees Fahrenheit, almost everybody would have a near death experience or a real death experience in this situation.

I kinda like having ugly n Rude around, he tries to make people think about the fact that things could possibly be explained outside of the paranormal. Blaming something on the paranormal should, if anything, be a last ditch effort after you've ruled out every other possibilities you can. It's silly to go around saying that everything has a tie to the paranormal, when in reality it can be explained scientifically. Basically what I'm saying is: Thank you ugly and rude for always giving a fresh perspective on what otherwise is deemed paranormalIcontexto-emoticons-01-032x032

RE: Shadow Creatures
I like him too, the world needs more people than him, and specially places like this forum, but beyond that there are some problems with scientiffic stuff in these subjects. I think is better to deal with ghosts, shadows and hallucinations and overcoming them believing they are paranormal, (even if they are not) than falling in the hands of a "pseudo science" like psychollogy, which has proven not being very efficient in curing these kinds of issues, and is much more dangerous than any demon, they can ruin people's lifes with their pills that only work to hide some psychollogical issues, so people forgets about them, but the price is very high, a whole life dependant of a heavy coctel of medications with lots of seccondary effects. I prefer a thousand times fighting with a legion of demons, djinn or whatever before falling in "science's " hands, and have seen much more people getting absolutely cured, with no need of any harmful substances just like that, by fighting and facing the problem by themselves, using their own power of will and strength. That's how you fix the problems, facing them, not getting doped and forgetting about them... Salutes!
