Would you buy a haunted house?
#1
When we were house-hunting many years ago, we had a selection criteria listed in order of importance. The one thing we never factored in was what if the place had a dark history and was rumoured to be 'haunted'. Fortunately, we never had to face that.

I wonder how hard would it be for a person to sell a haunted house. Would you buy a haunted house if the price was right?

I did buy a claimed haunted farm. Some of the claims: 11 year old boy hung himself in the barn, his mother would see him still hanging, so she burned the barn down. A 21 year old was also supposed to have hung himself in the the new barn.  A little old man and a little albino girl dressed in white were seen walking up and down the stairs in the home. An indian burial ground was supposed to be in the front yard. I lived there twenty years and never experienced anything.
Belief bias occurs when we make illogical conclusions in order to confirm our preexisting beliefs. Belief perseverance refers to our tendency to maintain a belief even after the evidence we used to form the belief is contradicted.

This brings to mind another question: what if some problems associated with haunted homes are due to mismatched occupants? Perhaps the issue of  selling a reputedly 'haunted' house can be resolved by finding buyers who aren't susceptible to any suggestion of the paranormal. I suspect that is often what happens with historic homes. Any old house dating back a certain numbers of years is bound to have someone deceased on the property at one time or another. Just don't jump every time the door slams or when a shadow falls.

A haunted farm would be a great venue for a Halloween party. Wink

"This house is rumored to be haunted" sounds like something you have a .001% chance of coming across while house hunting, imo. Not to mention the fact so. many. millions. pass away in their homes or in places that will become homes in the future.  White face
The woods are lovely, dark, and deep. And I have promises to keep. Miles to go before I sleep.
