At any rate, I tried to input a bit on my take of hypnosis vs meditation. Back to you, Rodney!

I think I'd be a better psychic then hopping into a random forum and telling everyone they have 2 years left to live.

It's not the go-to resolution, mind you. To fall victim to hypnosis takes a specific type of person, and you could also be snapped out of it fairly quickly. So, I believe that being trained in hypnosis could actually have been a thing, for driftwood. However, how it relates to this is not something I'm sure of. Hypnosis and mediation are only similar, insofar as the trance-like state that one is in. The rest is fundamentally different: from how you achieve that state to how you use that state, and even the specific type of state that you enter.

If driftwood were trained in eastern medicine, with a focus on meditation for instance, then I could see a relationship occurring.

    Thank you for the reply,
I apologize if I came across like the stubborn scientist.I was trained in traditional counseling, psychology and hypnosis. But I studied Eastern medicine and meditation. And then,my repressed "gifts" came back full tilt
You are correct about hypnosis. I once helped a woman with a fear of lightening and thunder. Hypnosis can be effective. However, its a last resort type of thing. Meditation is listening to a Higher Power. And the quieter your conscious mind is,the more attuned is your subconscious mind. I believe the subconscious mind is where we gain insight of which is not of the "Five Senses." Namaste

How does one find training for this?

This is actually a Shamanic practice, one of many that I have been using for years.

Sorry I didn't answer your question. One must find a mental health professional accredited in the training of hypnosis and or a holistic medicine practitioner certified in hypnosis. You have to do a thorough background check. There are too many people who advertise as a certified hypnotist. I mean anyone can create a fake degree. Furthermore,a person can be certified legitimately in hypnosis but that doesn't mean they can then certify others.
Hypnosis is an inexact science and results cannot be guaranteed. And in the United States, each state seems to have different certification criteria.
If you are serious about getting certified in hypnosis, I would inquire at accredited schools or legitimate holistic health clinics. Personally, I enjoyed providing hypnosis while affiliated at a holistic clinic. However, I viewed hypnosis as a potential adjunct to a patient's treatment.
In closing, I must add that meditation has impressive hard data supporting it's benefits. And there is a woman in NE Pennsylvania named Tara Grossi who is a medium... I believe she is certified in instructing hypnosis. Take care! I hope this was helpful.
