How can I be and feel safe whilst still being into vampires?

I had no intention to upset you, but while ghosts, angels and demons have been mentioned in texts from all cultures for millennia, vampires as we know them were invented in the 1800s in stories and superstition. We are all here because we have an interest in the paranormal, not because we believe it all. It's healthy to have a difference of opinion.

And thanks for the comment on my picture. It wasn't harmed in any way, it's just a dog listening to a telephone. It's not even my dog, it's a well known and pretty old internet meme.

And when I asked you to get help it was for your own safety. What if you start carrying weapons and are caught by the police? What if you attack a perceived vampire and it's just an innocent person? What if someone finds out about your interests and takes advantage of you by posing as a vampire? You need to be safe, and reign it in a little. Sorry if that offends you.

Nothing is lacking: official reports, affidavits of well-known people, of surgeons, of priests, of magistrates; the judicial proof is most complete. And with all that, who is there who believes in vampires?" ~Jean-Jacques Rousseau

To some people, it doesn't matter how many credible sources there are. If it doesn't fit into their narrow-view of the world, it isn't "real"/doesn't exist. If you would like to believe in vampires, whatever type there might exist, then that is your prerogative. No one can take that decision away from you, in the same way you cannot successfully change the narrow-view of another person. Everyone has the right to put up their blinders, on topics that mean a lot to them. Whether you should do that or not is what is up for debate.

However, it won't change whatever you are feeling, outside of the existence of vampires. Fear is a great thing, but when it begins to hinder your day-to-day life, it gets unhealthy. Simply on that, you should go and find ways to deal with your anxiety. My significant other has taken to martial arts. The physical activity helps with her body-chemistry to relieve anxiety, and the spiritual aspect gives her a way to mentally deal/strengthen her resistance to it.

@Everyone else;
Rousseau never said they did exist, but he did say that there is nothing much more well-attested than accounts of vampirism. The world has always been about truth through the masses. You might think it ridiculous, but look at yourselves. Popular belief would have you stand behind science and defend it to the grave. However, logic paints a MUCH different picture of science, even taking it down a peg or two. Its "answers" are undependable, and (at least recently) have taken the form of "we think", "we believe we'll find", "we may have found". There is no more truth is the claims of science than there are in the many people Rousseau references as authorities on the existence of vampires.

I think we should all just relax and give people's choice beliefs the benefit of the doubt. We ought to be helping to address the real problem they might be having, leaving aside any claims of vampirism.

The presence of those seeking the truth is infinitely to be preferred to the presence of those who think they've found it. ~ Terry Pratchett
