Sleep Paralysis Explained
#1
If you wish to understand sleep paralysis you need to understand that that these visions/auditory hallucinations are a projection of your subconscious mind. This should be pretty common knowledge but also what people dont know is the reason for sleep paralysis.

Your brain creates a neurotransmitter called Dimethyltryptamine (DMT), this is the most potent psychedelic known to man and is released in the body at times of extremely high stress and also during REM sleep. It is the reason you dream.

DMT when in its crystal form gives the effect that your body is undergoing an extremely strong anaesthesia, users often pass out/sleep and the motor function completely goes out the window. Explains the body lock from sleep paralysis and also the visions you see.

Sleep paralysis can be similar to lucid dreaming, but because there is an element of fear/shock your mind interprets that into fearful visions but if you understand why the experience is happening you can edit the visions to suit your preference.

I have experienced sleep paralysis three times.  I am convinced i was awake but i will not argue that since i cannot prove it.  During each experience, i was terrified not just because i was paralyzed but also because i could not breathe, and felt "something" pressing against the entirity of my back. I never saw or heard anything but because i felt the pressure, i that led me to think something was there, even after it stopped.  That is why i laid there motionless until my girlfriend awoke.

Attributing it to stress seems possible because i was under alot of of it around the time of those instances occurring.  However, i feel as though i have had periods of more stress since the last episode which was 7 yrs ago.

The stress back then was my girlfriend at the time.  We lived together and she was up to no good.  She was a very covert manipulator and deceitful.  When we parted ways i never experienced one again.  She has not went away completely as we had a child together after a one time post break up "hook up." The stress has been worse at times with us apart because of her shady tactics and custody battle yet no more sleep paralysis.  I have thought something evil accompanied her and that was the cause.

I would much rather there be a scientific explanation as that makes more "sense."  What your saying sounds good but its hard to believe as the experience seemed so real and i stayed awake til my girlfriend awoke.  I was too worried it might happen again.  To those that use DMT recreationally, can you sleep while on it?  If "yes,".did you "wake up" to something similar to what i described?

People with analytical thinking styles were less likely to hold such supernatural beliefs, and were less likely to be distressed after experiencing sleep paralysis, the study found. Though the study couldn't pin down the causal relationship, analytical thinkers may be more likely to seek out and believe naturalistic or scientific explanations for the condition, the researchers wrote, while intuitive thinkers might be drawn to supernatural explanations

There was a post that I made in another thread and science has once again explained the impossible.

Here is how it works. When you enter deep rem asleep, your body releases gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) and glycine to your brain that basically numbs your body so when you dream, you're not flopping around in your sleep. What happens is this, when you are abruptly awoken while in your rem state, the neurotransmitters stop for a moment to allow a restart of conginivity. One you've awoken, the neurotransmitters will still firing again and most of the time, you'll go back to sleep but if you stay awake, you'll feel the affects of the neurotransmitters and your body will go limp but while completely cognitive. The paralysis will last anywhere from a few seconds to 3 minutes. Can be quite scary and shocking as it doesn't happen too often and especially after a bad dream.
