Hinter Kaifeck (2009)
#1
You ever just wish someone would make a movie based on some spooky or disturbing real-life story? I do.

I Wish They'd Make a Movie of the Hinterkaifeck murders.... and apparently they have back in 2009.

The murder is quite disturbing. It's about a German family who lives on a farm. For months, the family complains about strange things happening on their farm... mysterious footprints in the snow leading into the house, but not out of it... creaking sounds like ghosts in the attic... newspapers that mysteriously appear and disappear... one maid got so creeped out she fled. They had to hire a new maid... poor gal.

Apparently, the murderer was living in the house for months before they killed everyone in the family. It's quite gruesome. Sad story... but it has a lot of elements that would make a great horror film.

Has anyone seen the film?

Edit in:
Probably the creepiest part of the whole thing was their hay baler had broken down and, after they were murdered/missing, the repairman finally came out to the farm to fix it. The guy felt like he was being watched the whole time he fixed the thing! I can't believe he stayed.

No, but read the story. The murderer apparently stuck around for a few days in the house after the murders but left before anyone discovered them. Neighbors said they saw someone moving around the farm feeding the animals and doing other chores at a time when the victims were later found to have already been dead. Creepy. Never solved.

Non-believer: It's just a cat.
Crackpot: Black cats are part of the New World Order government conspiracy.
Skeptic: I can test if black cats are more or less lucky than another cat.
Cynic: You only have a black cat to gain power and prestige.

I first read it in a cracked.com article. Been doing some research on it as a possible blog article too. They apparently have a little memorial out there where the house used to stand.

It is a creepy story. It's in my encyclopedia of unsolved crimes. Probably one of the most gruesome, intriguing stories.... which is why I thought it'd make an interesting horror film.

You're right-- the guy did stay at the farm doing the chores and caring for the animals. I read somewhere that there was speculation that it had been the site of some clandestine meeting and that's why the whole family had to be slain.
