Need advice
I am very interested in starting to visit places that are rumored to be haunted and try to see what I can find. I know that you are never supposed to try to contact the dead, I do not want to open any doors that I should not but can you do that by just trying to pick up what's already there? My mom always told me that you never try to talk to the dead. I'm so interested in the paranormal ...... I dont' know what to do.

1. Look to see if there is an active paranormal group in your area
2. Find at least one other person to go with. Should never go investigating alone.
3. Almost all places are privately owned so you'll need permission, unless you're lucky enough to find an old, abandoned building or cemetery.

Good luck.

RE: Need advice
Spirits are not just going to attach to you. It's not like in the movies. I don't agree with Ouiji boards, either.
First, start slow. Do your research. Look up locations, public access, what people commonly experience and how often. Look for patterns. More often it's explainable. Try to find places known to have residual spirits. These are harmless. Just remember that no matter if it's day or night, quiet or loud, you do not have complete control of the environment. I was watching a Kenneth Biddle discussion on youtube and learned those digital recorders can pick up stomach growls and vibrations on surfaces that can sound demonic on tape.
Before you waste anytime trying to do amature ghost hunts that will end with skewed "evidence", just read and research. NEVER trespass no matter how tempting. Get permission. And never go alone. You do not have to investigate at night. If people are having experiences at a public location it's likely during the day and that's when you should be investigating.

I'm sure the OP appreciates your opinions on whether they are real or not!

RE: Need advice
Wonderful advice Angelaura, the only thing I would add is learning shielding.

I didn't give any opinions on whether anything is real or not. I was merely giving generalized information that any one trying to investigate any place for any reason should know.

Thank you. I didn't think of shielding as it isn't something I'm very experienced with. I think that is a another skill in itself.

RE: Need advice
Yes shielding is another skill all together but think of it this way, how often has someone come here telling us how they hunted and are now dragging along negative energy/entities or they have stirred up something.

Would it not be better to go into situations with ones energy balanced and shielded against ambient energy. If you are protected there should never be a problem. This applies to ouija as well as ghost hunting.
