Attached entities, demons and mental illness
#1
I have been looking into the possibility that many personality and mental disorders such as schizophrenia, bipolar, borderline and multiple personality disorders etc could actually be a result of demonic influence, or at least some kind of attached entity.

Anyone else know anything about this? I have had psychological problems and been on and off SSRI's/anti-depressant meds for years and when I read the symptoms of having an attached entity it described accurately all my symptoms. This alone is not proof but I have felt for a long time that maybe something else was inside me.

Please let me know your thoughts and I'm happy to share mine with you.

You need to keep in mind that before these illnesses were researched and more knowledge gained, the blame went to the demons. This is because of belief, not because of anything that has ever been proven to exist.

I'm not going to tell you what to do, but I would advise you that this road was traveled many many years ago and it only led to harm being done to people who actually needed help. We live in a time where that help is available.

It's a dangerous theory. People have been killed from supposed exorcisms when they actually had a mental illness or handicap. Scarygirl is right that this is a very old fashioned view on the topic and we now know more about mind than we did decades ago. If you are in need of help there are a lot of harmless resources you can go to.

Maybe bringing this up to the padre of your church might be beneficial to your situation. Bad energy sticks to spiritually weakened individuals, in my opinion.

Or even physically weakened.

If you're interested in this topic, you could read Van Dusen. Of course, don't ignore seeing a mental health specialist.

I might get a few side eyes for saying this but yes I believe mental disorders can be heightened by dark entities. About them causing them in the first place... I'm not too sure. Entities like to attach to people they're already compatible with.

But it's impossible to say a dark entity is behind your suffering because mental disorders can be triggered or heightened by soo many things - diet, sleep patterns, lack of exercise, stress, suppressed emotional pain, psychic vampires, or even spiritual awakening.

Also you don't wanna be going on and off SSRIs like that. You're only making things worse... are you currently on them?

You can read stories on a paranormal forum and a mental health forum and they mirror each other. I see now why I am often complained about for bringing up mental health issues as it may hit to close to home for many of you.
Belief bias occurs when we make illogical conclusions in order to confirm our preexisting beliefs. Belief perseverance refers to our tendency to maintain a belief even after the evidence we used to form the belief is contradicted.

It took hundreds of years to educate ourselves away from the belief that mental illness originates from demonic entities. I'm not about to entertain the thought of going back. So, I'm out of this conversation. Again, I won't tell anyone what to do but this is a slippery slope that has strong evidence against it.

That's all true, but interestingly enough, with all that we've learned and all the medicine we have at our disposal...it's still a problem. I'd think it would be more successful to try and treat a person holistically, and for many, that includes spiritually. It simply isn't enough to tell people that what they're experiencing isn't real. It's certainly their reality.

I mean, don't forgo modern medicine, for heaven's sake. See a mental health professional if you have mental health issues. I just think modern medicine needs to acknowledge and respect a patient's beliefs, and consider them during treatment. There are spiritual crises that have been stricken from the DSM, because they understand them better now and realize that they aren't signs of mental illness.
