The Bloody Benders
I'd vaguely heard of "The Benders" in an episode of Supernatural titled the self same. One of my old college roommates, a couple months ago, shared with me this blog article about the family, which I've, today, finally gotten 'round to reading as I'm home with a nasty sinus infection.

It's about a family of people who murdered people for their pocketbooks in Kansas in 1871 to 1873. All-in-all, the story is very gruesome-- and there are some great articles about the bunch in newspapers since. If you're a history buff, like me, the Chronicling America part of the Library of Congress has a good lot of old newspaper articles on The Bender Family.

Here's the article my old roommate shared:

Here's the Library of Congress URL:

Use 1873-1874 as the date
Keyword Kansas Bender

The Eaton Ohio Weekly Democrat from May 29, 1873 has the associated press article that gives many of the details.... but the other hits are equally enjoyable. It appears as though the Bender Family was never caught, though several in the Old West were accused of their crimes.
