A witches true power
#61
May I say.. that power is a corruptive phrase. What a Wiccan is..is about strength. A strength to endure our existence through a harmless path. The strength card of the Tarot shows a woman closing the mouth of a lion..it is her strength.. not of power but of enduring what must be in HARMLESSNESS.

Mostly, the only power I know of that I possess, other than that which angelaura stated, is healing. I'm pretty certain I inherited it from my mother, who has a history of somehow healing minor wounds or illnesses with a touch or tincture. There is a draw back, however, she tends to take it on herself due to the act she doesn't realize what she is doing. Because of this her own health is often frail. She can't heal people who have serious wounds or illnesses though she can lessen discomfort and pain.

Anyone can practice these things. Witches with those abilities are extremely rare. Witches as Wiccans are nature worshippers and manipulate magic. Magic isn't pyrokinesis or telekinesis. Magic is energy fused with something. The witches you see on TV are nothing close to witches.

As someone who has just started delving into witchcraft and learning about Wicca, I personally have a great respect for this earth and all of the animals that inhabit it. I especially respect the spiritual plane and all of the supernatural energies that inhabit it. It is my belief that if any type of spells are cast, that the intent for it should be that of goodness, healing and protection.

What the OP said about a 'witch's true power' being able to 'scare the stuff out of someone' is NOT the intent that a person should have when casting a spell or exhibiting their 'power' in front of another! The OP should look up the Three-Fold Law as this will explain the consequences of someone harnessing and displaying any type of 'power' that would frighten (or harm) a person, however innocent or harmless their intent may be.

I used to listen to a fictional paranormal drama. The main character had a business card that said, "What's coming at you is probably coming from you."
-DFB

Subject: I have a black cat.
Believer: Black cats are bad luck.
Non-believer: It's just a cat.
Crackpot: Black cats are part of the New World Order government conspiracy.
Skeptic: I can test if black cats are more or less lucky than another cat.
Cynic: You only have a black cat to gain power and prestige.

That quote describes the Three-Fold Law succinctly. I think this is what a lot of people who choose to dabble into witchcraft fail to understand. They see movies about witches and read about casting spells on others and they think, "Hey I can do that, it's easy!" Well, it's no where near 'easy'. Any power that is harnessed from the forces of nature and that is actualized MUST be respected and handled with care - there is great responsibility when one is using a power that is supernatural. There is ALWAYS a balance in nature, whether one believes it or not.

What one puts out - one will get back.

The rule of three is a wiccan "rule", there are many witches who are not wiccan who in turn don't follow the rede. Witches have been practicing for hundreds of years before wicca was ever dreamt of. As far as the rule, it is pretty illogical, kind of like the butterfly effect, if you send out positive energy to help joe smith to get that new job in turn sally whoseit doesn't get the job, gets evicted and ends up living in her car. Everything is balance but thinking a good action will only result in good things and vice versa is too black and white.

That's true.

You do have a point regarding whether a person thinks 'good actions' will only result in 'good things'. 'Good actions' may NOT always result in 'good things' being sent back to the sender; it all depends on the INTENT and FEELING behind the action, regardless of the original purpose of the action.

Nature maintaining balance on the earth and in other planes of existence is NEVER 'illogical' - it is only 'illogical' to the person's point of view. Remember, we're only mortals - HUMAN BEINGS...so, we will NEVER understand the inner workings of nature in the earthly state nor the supernatural state.

As long as the intent and feeling is positive we're all good? Like, I see somebody littering so I walk up and deck them, my intent and feeling is good, I want to help them learn that it's wrong to litter to help protect the earth, it wasn't from hate, fear or anger, not a magical example but you can get where I'm going, seems illogical to me.

As star pointed out the law is not followed by all, there is far more then just wicca out there. The OP was asking what people believed, not saying that real witches could scare the stuffing out of you.

As for intent, I feel this goes back to a phrase my father taught us. "There is so much good in the worst of us, and so much bad in the best of us, that it never behooves any of us, to care about the rest of us."

At heart no one is good, but no one is evil. The majority of us are somewhere of the middle of the curve. Most will help others if it does not inconvenience them. I can't say everything Ive ever done was good, or that was my intent. I definitely know some stuff that can do more then just mess up a persons day. The draw back is not karma but the energy strain it takes{positive or negative}, at least to me. There are certainly some people I can think of that I would have zero regrets "cursing" for lack of a better term. What keeps me? I don't want to be that person, lifes pretty dull if all your about is cursing others, your life and the lot of it. I can't remember the exact quote or author but it was something like "Your lot in life may be narrow, but it takes a wise soul to fill a narrow lot and fill it well." If Im going to put energy out it will be to protect and help who I want. I want my life filled well, and Ive certainly agitated my share of folks with my devil may care attitude on taking the "proper" path. And I will continue to do so.
