I can't explain it too much, but they did used to work with me when I did it properly.

I only ever tried light healing though.

RE: Has anyone found crystals useful?
Every crystal has its own special property. Putting a clear quartz in all of the 4 corners of your house can help balance out energies in your home. Sleeping with an amethyst can help calm nightmares. Writing a paper or anything for that matter and feeling stuck? Use a hunk of citrine to help bring forth new inspirations. The possibilities are seriously endless

Faeries, come take me out of this dull world,
For I would ride with you upon the wind,
Run on the top of the dishevelled tide,
And dance upon the mountains like a flame.
(William Butler Yeats, "The Land of Heart's Desire," 1894)

RE: Has anyone found crystals useful?
For the most part I believe that the significance of a particular kind of crystal to a specific arena of effectiveness has a lot to do with the user's belief in it. When told that crystal X is good for protection and crystal Y is good for dispersing negative energy, then either consciously or sub-consciously one's mind associates that attribute with the crystal in question, giving it the effect it is believed to have.

I'd have to say that no crystal has an intrinsic property that just so happens to coincide with the needs of humans. They are energy conductors and focal points. The power of such objects is that, as conductors the amount of energy that can be stored (the "Charge" if you will) can either eliminate the need for annoyingly long and boring rituals during which the majority of the ritual is spent building energy or enhance them, and as focal points they act to "lubricate" the division of the user's will and the energy output, allowing the user to easily direct the energy with specific purpose with much more ease.

Yes, I have found them most useful.

'A phantom,' said my Uncle Mycroft, who had just materialised, 'is essentially a heteromorphic wave pattern that gains solidity when the apparition converts thermal energy from the surroundings to visible light. It's a fascinating process and I'm amazed no one has thought of harnessing it - a holographic TV that could operate from the heat given off by an average-size guinea pig.' ~ First Among Sequels, Jasper Fforde

I wonder if the influence of chrystals and rocks is something to do with that they have been molecularly intact for a long time, unprocessed, original

What Gizmo said: "On one hand, i am really dubious about crystal power. REALLY dubious. It sounds like hocus pocus to me, and makes no sense. So, my response has been to ignore them, mostly. But what bugs me- and I haven't figured it out- is why black tourmaline seems to help to clear energies that are negative. A lot of people have used it in places where they have been annoyed by activity and they report that it slows or stops when they put it there. I dunno.

Part of me thinks it's placebo, but too many people have used it to good purpose, so I kind of think why not? It can't hurt, and it seems to help.

Also, some people who are sensitive say they actually have trouble holding it for any length of time. But I haven't experienced that."

I wanted to reply to yours and Gizmo's at the same time but I don't think I can do that. I thought that, too, Darkstone - when you talk about the intent, and was going to respond to Gizmo with that, but then when you think about it, what about the belief that areas with large amounts of quartz tend to hold onto energy, and can supposedly create the type of haunting that is only residual, just basically a tape recording? I, myself, have not heard of any others that do this, but I'm sure there might be some.

Also, as far as intent goes or being placebo, not really know what it does exactly - you gotta figure the use of crystals and stones go back thousands of years. One of those "how the hell did someone decide to grind up a bunch of wheat, make flour and decide how to make bread out it?" kind of thing I would suppose. Maybe back then certain people were sensitive enough to figure out their uses, maybe it was accidental trial and error? Maybe both and it is still placebo effect.

But I'm in the same boat. I have quite a few crystals of my own though I think I onlly slept with a couple under my pillow once. I held a crystal in a healing I received one time. I was supposed to imagine my energy going through me, out my hands and into it.

Interesting to think about for sure!

RE: Has anyone found crystals useful?
The only time a crystal ever did anything useful for me was when I built a crystal-quartz radio receiver for a science project.

Oh..and our night-vision laser-guided anti-tank missiles in the military had, as I recall, a crystalline core.

Other than that, nada. When I dated a witch once she was into them. And said if I wore one around my neck during a 10K race I was doing that weekend (I am a a runner) it would improve my time.

I did wear it....and it didn't. LOL
