RE: Information About Orbs
I have seen orbs with my own eyes, but, have never been able to catch any on film. I take tons of photoes, and have never caught an orb. They are very quick, even with the naked eye, they dont stick around very long. I know many people that have seen orbs, but like i said, they dont usually stick around very long.

I would love to capture one on film, but im sure if i did, it would be by accident. This also goes along with ghosts and spirits, very hard to capture on film, unless you just happen to catch it by chance. I have had a few strange things in pics. and wondered, but, what you see with your own eyes is the best, and if you have a friend with you that sees the same thing, now that is awesome, then you have something to document.

Orbs are caused by dust, pollen. lint. moisture, bugs, and a host of floating debri. Its all about the distance from the flash to the lens.

UNR, that top pic. would make a great poster, or even a framed 8 by 10.

RE: Information About Orbs
My grandma alway's told me a story, she was born in 1905 and died in 1994. Anyways she alway's told a story about when my grandpa died she was with him on the bed, and a glowing whitish blue floating roundish light was over in the corner and came over to him and zoomed off. Now my grandma didn't make up story's like that as far as I know.
So who knows there are things we just can't get pics of. Mel

RE: Information About Orbs
Many people when they see someone die they love so much die often go into a sort of shock where they see things.
This might not be the case at all they might have seen something but it also possible that they were under a huge deal of stress.
I cannot imagine the pain of watching your mate pass on without you. Kinda reminds me of that song "Waiting on a Woman".
My husband told me lastnight he wants to be buried beside me when we die holding hands I have been sick for a while I think he is worried.

RE: Information About Orbs
Good stuff.
We need to get this out there. It only hurts the field that many aren't aware of this.

Something people should keep in mind too is that floating "Orbs" seen with the naked eye are a different phenomenon than photocaptured orbs.
Wil o wisps and Railroad lights have been seen for many years before the proliferation of photographic orbs.
I see ALOT of amateur and some profesional investigators putting far to much stock in "orbs". I always try to provide reason when its brought up. Many will believe what they want though, regardless.

I don't believe in orbs unless it looked like a face without a body to go with it.

RE: Information About Orbs
Very informative article! I have it bookmarked for reference, and it really goes through each example and answers a lot of questions people ask about orbs. Thanks for the share!

Very, very true IMO. You can explain the rationality and the science behind orbs, show examples, point them to websites such as The Orb Zone that explain in very simple terms what orbs are but people will believe despite very convincing evidence.
People on rare occasions do see orbs 'in real life' not on photographs but there are perfectly rational explanations for these externalised orbs ranging from various visionary/eye defects to insects and reflected light.

RE: Information About Orbs
I keep getting into this debate, and you know what? I think EVERYONE would agree if we just cleaned up the misuse of the term "orb."

People call everything orbs. Let's clarify. Okay?

There is the type of 'orb' that is caused by backscatter when flash hits particles in the air and bounces off them. If said particles are in a certain focal length away from the lens, it causes what is known as circles of confusion on the CCD where it cannot make sense of their shapes, so they become circles. People like to call these 'orbs.' They are not paranormal, any more than the red eyes you sometimes get in peoples' portraits are evidence that they are demons.

Then, there are light anomalies. These are seen (often) with the naked eye. In videos, they tend to move erratically and can go through solid objects. They often appear in conjunction with other paranormal-type events such as EVP or temperature drops. These CAN be paranormal in nature, although bugs can sometimes be the culprits.

When people get into these debates about whether orbs are paranormal, it kills me when I see them arguing about DIFFERENT THINGS.

dust orbs = not paranormal
light anomalies = possibly paranormal
red eye = DEMONS!!!! (Just kidding!)

In video you have erratic air currents that move in all directions. Foreign particles will be illuminated by the IR lighting. an evp? a temperature drop? try coincidence.

Now four different camera manufacturers have explained what they are.... how they are caused. They only live on because people lack critical thinking skills.

Belief bias occurs when we make illogical conclusions in order to confirm our preexisting beliefs. Belief perseverance refers to our tendency to maintain a belief even after the evidence we used to form the belief is contradicted.
