However, I recently decided to do a guided meditation to discover and interact with my spirit animal, again thinking it would probably be a rat. After finally finding a guided meditation recording that didn't go too fast, to my surprise, I encountered a rabbit instead. The experience felt pretty genuine... but I'm confused, does this mean that my spirit animal was a white rabbit the whole time? Or is it possible to have more than one spirit animal?

In native american tradition your spirit animal can change over time. The spirit animal is used to help guide you at your stage in life and each animal represents different attributes that are important to you during that stage. You could have very well moved from rat to rabbit. That does not mean that one replaces the other entirely, you will always have that rat energy, but you also need the rabbit energy (think of it like moving from learning basic math to algebra, you still need to know how to add and subtract to be successful in algebra). You can also have more than one during any stage of your life.

I won't lie, I went to do this and realized I am way too ADD right now to even attempt. Maybe I will get someone to read it to me so I can concentrate on meditating. As previously stated, many times, I am Native American (did you know I am Native American...lol) and have been raised in a culture that encourages learning from your spirit animal, so I already know what creatures I tend towards. That being said, I am interested to see what their process is.

My father is part Cherokee, although he was raised by a grandmother (who had a child marry into the family) on a Shawnee reservation. He is very familiar with both the Cherokee and the Shawnee traditions. He can even speak some Cherokee, although no one here in Maine speaks it.
