Faeries, come take me out of this dull world,
For I would ride with you upon the wind,
Run on the top of the dishevelled tide,
And dance upon the mountains like a flame.
(William Butler Yeats, "The Land of Heart's Desire," 1894)

For years I always believed the rat to be my spirit animal because they're a recurring image in my dreams. For example, whenever I'm having a nightmare, things always become much better in the dream after a white rat or two appears.

However, I recently decided to do a guided meditation to discover and interact with my spirit animal, again thinking it would probably be a rat. After finally finding a guided meditation recording that didn't go too fast, to my surprise, I encountered a rabbit instead. The experience felt pretty genuine... but I'm confused, does this mean that my spirit animal was a white rabbit the whole time? Or is it possible to have more than one spirit animal?

It's true many people have more than one spirit guide so it is common but very rarely people only have one. You should try connecting to the both of them and you can get your answers then. Because the rabbit could be your actual spirit guide and the rat could your other spirit guide that serve as a messenger. I would look into that and ask them Smile good luck Big Grin

It can take several tries leading up to several years to find all your spirit guides/spirit animals. Just don't give up...start asking your guides questions to see if you get responses!

You know WM you mentioned having access to guided meditation work because you are pagan...I first learned the art of journeywork though a guide, in a circle, with a drum at a Wiccan gathering.

I have had some of my most fufilling spirtual conversations and experiences at coven gatherings. Surprisingly as well, most there were well versed and knowledgeable in scripture.

Oy, the way I spend my Friday nights is unusual I know. Icontexto-emoticons-09-032x032

more than 1 spirit animal makes sense to me =) I used to have a higher affinity and understanding with cats (still have, but it isn't that prominent at the moment)-- recently the images of first bulls then bisons have been following me about. a meditation then confirmed those thoughts to me, I believe spirit animals change or add up according to your situation or current needs

I never did any sort of shamanic journeying, but I'm pretty sure mine is the crow. Maybe also the hummingbird. I've had unique experiences with both of them.

It's funny because I never really felt I was a "bird person," yet I definitely have a way with them.

I have never heard of that method before. I found my spirit animal about two years ago. He's an old black panther and the only spirit animal I have, or at least the only one I can find. I didn't realize it was uncommon to only have one.
