What if they really found Nessie? - Jadeite - 08-07-2018

About 4 years ago, we went on a cruise at Loch Ness but Nessie wasn't there. She could be on vacation at the time. ?

Fascinating prospect though. What would we do if it really happened?

My husband felt as if he was coming home when we visited Drummossie Moor, overlooking Inverness, near where the Battle of Culloden took place in 1746. He since found that his Clan has ancestral links to the area. Aye.

I wonder if Nessie was a case of mistaken identity. Could she also be a giant eel or some monster fish? This is one of my favourite fisherman's tale. The "fishy tail"  that simply grew and grew.

I think it's fascinating how little we know about our own ocean. There's so many funky things being photographed from the sea, but also many fakes. I don't doubt there's a giant eel like fish mistaken for Nessie in remote areas. The weirdest stuff we have yet to ever see, that'll knock Nessie out of the water, probably lives deep below on the ocean bed.

Considering about 75% of the planet is covered with water, I'm sure there are oceans of fantastic creatures lurking below. I remember as a child being fascinated by the mysteries of the deep from classic TV series such as "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea". Yes, this was a looong time ago. Before colour TV. Wink

As a former submarine sailor I can tell you that a submarine doesn't have a plushy cabin with big windows at the front for the admiral. A submarine doesn't have windows. Also, the captain doesn't have a steam-punk pipe organ.

Aye, aye, Captain Nemo. "Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea" - a Jules Verne classic. One of my favourites too.

DFB, you were a submarine sailor? Wow - how awesome. Share us your submarine stories, puhleeaassee?  Owl Eyes

Lol, not really much to tell.  My neighbor is a Vietnam vet and has all sorts of stories about rescuing downed pilots while under fire.  When it's my turn to tell a war story I'm more like, "Well, one Saturday on pizza night the cook ran out of pepperoni."

RE: What if they really found Nessie? - Jadeite - 09-02-2018

No pepperoni for pizza? Shock, horror, tragedy!!! Well, what did the intrepid cook do next...?

Hmm, this reminds me of a Steven Seagal movie, "Under Siege", where the ship's cook saves the day. It could happen.

If the submarine was accosted by a giant eel, I'd bet the cook would charge to the rescue with the old trusty cleaver and whole crew would have unagi don (grilled eel) for dinner. Icontexto-emoticons-08-032x032
